Our Projects Nurturing Programme The objective of this programme is to improve education for local, vulnerable young children in the community, giving them opportunities for a scholastic career and to obtain better opportunities later in life. This programme hosts three projects - the 'Inua Sanitary Pad Project' ('Inua' meaning 'Uplift'), the 'Inua Back to School' project and most recently the 'Okoa Kizazi Cha Kesho' project (Rescue the parents of tomorrow). The first provides young girls with sanitary towels every month as it has been discovered many can't afford them and don't attend school for the whole week. The second project supplies the local children of Machakos town with school items such as school uniform, pens and books as, again, many can't afford these materials leading to a high school drop-out rate. The third provides mentorship and counseling to young girls who have been abused sexually, mentally or physically abused. This project aims to create awareness in relationships at a tender age in order for the girls to become a responsible women in the future. Social Enterprise Incubator Programme This programme aims at training local young people in Business, Vocational and Life Skills in order to enable them to start and manage income generating activities and link them with industry players. This programme has two phases - Skill Training and Vocational Training. The Skill Training phase focuses on business skills and those who complete can move on to the Vocational Training where they are taught crafts to supply them with an income. Light of Hope Post Primary Fund As an organization we felt that part of our energy, resources and time we are investing in the pupils in primary schools is going to waste; Through Motivational Talks, Mentor ship, Career wise Talks, life skills, ensuring girl-child remains in school throughout the semester by giving the sanitary towels on monthly basis, all these has led to improved performance in academics. But due to poor economic background, mostly because of poor planning/investment from the parents in the rural setting, these children end up in the village without proceeding to secondary school, some end up getting married at a tender age some indulge in drug abuse simply because they are hopeless as far as education and career is concerned. To ensure continuity of education to the pupils we came up with ‘Light of Hope Post Primary Fund’, through this scheme parents are to form groups that they manage themselves in that: they elect the officials i.e. Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary among other posts who act as the center of direction to their respective groups. In their respective groups they agree on a weekly contribution from each member. The contribution is to raise capital for them to start income generating projects which range from Agri-business, livelihood projects to other commercial businesses like shops and supermarkets. We as the brain-child behind this initiative organize for their training in entrepreneurship and record keeping through our co-operate partners and other experts in Agri-business the group may want to undertake. Who aid the development of micro enterprise by offering basic business skills workshops and helping to cultivate lending and savings programs for potential borrowers. Provide counseling, awareness and activities such as Craft making, Art making and Bead making e.t.c Through the Income generating projects and weekly savings they create a loan revolving fund, in that members can borrow through proper vetting by a committee in place to ascertain the money borrowed is used for paying school fees for the child in secondary school and above. More so Light of Hope Youth Initiative will help them in marketing of the products to fetch good market since we interact with people from different regions and caliber. Incoming Project My Community Programme 'Mtaa Yangu' This programme is designed for like-minded young people to meet and interact so they can be sensitized about different topical issues i.e. HIV/AIDS, Drug Abuse, Leadership and Environmental Conservation. This programme is made up of five annual events -
